PUTANG INA!
Preface
My golf quest was precipitated by an incident on August 29, 1998, at Richter Park Golf Course where I unbelievably scored a 78 while playing with my late friend, Dan O'Reilly, and another walk-in couple, Denise and Bill. How I played that day was a total abandonment of my instincts. Now I believe it was the trebuchet effect - not a golf technique - that made it happen. It was actually the total complete continuous golf swing, swung with abandon like a trebuchet, that made my perfect golf game that very memorable day.
I remember that day at Richter Park, the 2nd par 5 hole, my third shot, I am looking at the ball and inside me I was telling myself, just let go (like I had been doing from the first hole), just let go, don't think how to hit the ball, just hit it and let go. I did and the ball just disappeared and went, but I don't know what happened and how I did it!
Now I know. It is Hogan's Secret Move. Hogan mentioned two planes in his book but could not properly explain them. I finally found out what he tried to explain but just left it for the reader to experience. The Golf Quest is over. NO NEED TO SEARCH FURTHER (2024-06-01). Actually there is no secret move. Just letting go is actually the ‘secret’ but I did not understand what was happening. I actually, with that body-turn-around move, was throwing the clubhead the way Mike Austin teaches (2024-06-22). However, this body turn move is not easy to execute if you are not in the proper position. The 11-4 o'clock shoulder plane accomplishes this.
Reminiscing
On Feb. 15, 2015, the caddie at Villamor CC, I only know him as Jun 13, found something missing in my swing. He noticed that I did not finish my swing. He demonstrated to turn the right hip at the end of my swing and face the target. This was the precursor to my "Picture-Perfect" finish. I will now make a rule for myself which, hopefully, I will not forget. Always end the golf swing with the hips facing the target.
Technically Speaking
In golf, Hogan introduced the concept of the plane. It is supposed to be an imaginary flat sheet of glass from the shoulders down to the target line. Your shoulders is supposed to swing along the flat plane. This mental image, however, hinders me from turning around to finish in a picture-perfect position. However, imagining the shoulders on an 11-4 o'clock position, going along the plane until it is tight and the perspective of facing backward. Then the whole upper body bounces back. Two independent movements. The only conscious efforts are the upper body thrusting the club up and the weight shift of the hips to pull backward, then turn and throw the upper body that forcefully snaps the clubhead to the ball and the upper body to a picture-perfect finish.
The engine (the energy or force) of the swing is the hips. BUT THE SNAPPING MOTION, AS WELL AS THE UPPER BODY PULLING THE CLUB, IS NOT A CONSCIOUS MOVE BUT ONLY A REACTION AS A RESULT OF THE HIPS HURLING THE UPPER BODY WHICH IN TURN PULLS THE CLUB BUTT TOWARDS THE BALL. This is all facilitated by the 11-4 o'clock shoulders backswing.
Parts of the Golf Swing
Setup
ALWAYS start with the mental picture of the PLANE. Then a frozen one-piece upper body with the arms bound like Hogan (RRE). The mental video is the one-piece takeaway turning along the plane with the left wrist cocking the club like a spear.
Right Ribs and Elbow (RRE)
At all times whenever physically practical, the right ribs and right elbow must be fused together. This position and feel are the essences of the golf swing. These are the body parts that are frozen one-piece and pushed around upwards at takeaway. Make sure the right shoulder is lower, the right elbow is firmly resting the inside most on the abdomen, and the crease (right elbow most important) pointing skyward. They are essential in all swings, e.g., chips, and pitches. The right hand starts the club backwards (right wrist flip) on waggle and full swing - an action that clarifies the plane, the paths of the club and the shoulders turn. THE FIRST MOVE IS THE RIGHT HAND (aided by the left hand) FLIPPING BACK THE SHAFT - WHICH REVEALS THE PLANE, I.E., PATH FOR THE SHOULDERS TO USE TO TURN ON THE BACKSWING. The shaft path is the PLANE!
Upswing
Objective - full coil. In order to end up automatically on the picture-perfect pose, the COIL must be employed so that the uncoiling is automatic and, therefore, repeatable. The upswing is the function of the Shoulders.
Grip: left hand as taught by Hogan with shaft and arm aligned straight to the left shoulder.
Visualize the Teaneck plane.
Execute a one-piece takeaway. With the hips, go low and slow, brush the grass while turning back. Vigorously thrust backward (hurl) the club like a spear along the plane.
When the left arm touches the plane, cock (optional) the left wrist (pronated automatically at this point, the back hand touching the plane) to coil the club spear at its max.
Downswing
Objective: Shift the weight and pull the butt of the club in order to snap the right hip to pull and unwind the winded (tightened) upper body. The upper body, on the downswing, is an independent part of the body and UNWINDS automatically. The downswing is the function of the Hips.
First move. Using the bounce, shift the weight left and thrust the butt of the club to the ball to automatically snap the right hip to uncoil the upper body along the TEANECK plane. Uncoiling should be automatic and you should see the clubhead coming back through the desired path and depth.
Continue the downswing to a picture-perfect finish with the HIPS FACING THE TARGET!
Imagining the TEANECK PLANE is necessary
for accuracy,
for the clubhead to come to the same depth and place at address,
to be able to transition to a picture-perfect finish.
Billiard Putting
Put it like you are playing pool or billiards. PPP wide backstroke like Lenny but the grip must be low and close to the waist in order to ensure the putter stays square to the target.
There is something beautiful in a stance like this:
Feet close to one another to facilitate automatic turning.
Open the body approximately 45° to the target line and the right forearm is kept parallel to the target line like a billiard stroke.
Amazingly, the putter shaft droops perpendicular to the T-line and so is my left arm (almost)! Since this line is perpendicular to the target line, use it to align the putter to the target.
It feels so good but looks kind of weird seeing both arms triangulate at the grip
2024-09-30: New Grip, Old Putter
The new jumbo grip made a huge difference in the feel.
The right forearm kept parallel to target line.
Left arm prevents chicken wing by cradling grip; forearm almost perpendicular to the target line.
Ball position above left toe. Putter head rests an inch away from the ball to encourage a rolling ball.
Putting move preferably done by roecking the shoulders.
2025-02-24: The ball rolls (therefore, straighter) significantly noticeable when the setup is like a “forward press”. Try this on full shots too. The grip resting by the left hip with frozen RRE, the putter bottom resting nicely flat on the ground, forward press, then rock the shoulders to execute the putting motion.
Chipping
Use the same technique as putting. RRE for all, even Pitching. 2024-06-19: I think the parallel to the ground technique is easier to Implement and it is actually the same principle at work as the Thrust and O-Way swing. PPP needs a SHALLOW PLANE (prevents duffs and increases back spin).
2024-08-24: Cock and hold. Mickelson's tip. Works for the full swing too.
2024-10-30: RRE, BUT KEEP THE RIGHT ELBOW GLUED TO THE BELLY ALL THE TIME!
History
2024-05-14 East Mountain GC Forgot the pull sling effect, mentally was not able to release the club.
2024-05-21: 92 at Grassy Hill. Found a new automatic swing at the driving range. I was feeling helpless because my swing has deteriorated back to where I cannot clear the hips. I read my notes again and noticed Rorie's thing about a practice routine that he always does and still does. That is the split grip practice swing. This basically reminded me of the delayed hit. I tried this and, lo and behold, it actually forces me to hit a delayed right hand hit - which also clears the hips automatically. Use the RRE setup but accentuate the hands to be very forward to the ball position. As required in the RRE, the right elbow must be on the stomach and the right arm extended to the grip of the club. This arm extension forces the grip to be quite ahead of the ball position and fosters the one-piece takeaway. (It also forces you to reach down more and puts your right shoulder down creating a nice golfer setup position.) This is to prepare for the late hit (Rorie's practice swing). Just turn around (one-piece takeaway) like Rorie and immediately hit - a quick 1, 2 swing. The right hand fires automatically. Also, the right hand grip is dominantly felt all the time, ready to work at a moment's notice. Employ what I learned here on all aspects of the golf swing, putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. Finally, just like Hogan, the arms and grip is one solid unit.
2024-05-24: At Crestbrook with Rudy. I can't clear my hips again. I think the solution is to let the grip go past the ball before engaging any attempt to turn around. I think when the grip is stuck downwards and passes the ball, clearing the hips becomes automatic. LET THE HIPS THROW THE UPPER BODY (CLUBHEAD), THEN CLEARING THE HIPS IS NO ISSUE! And how about a no-think swing? Possible. Just use the extreme right elbow to sit on your stomach to start a one-piece takeaway. Well, try to go further, make the right elbow really sticky so that it forces the left shoulder to twist more (there might be something to this, this is a novel idea).
2024-05-31: At Crestbrook with Rudy again. On YouTube, watch Hogan's swing again and confirm that he hits the ball when his body is already facing forward. Meaning, he hit his ball like a Side-Swing. I tried this and incorporated all the things in this History section so far and it worked! SO I WILL REWRITE ALL THIS AND REVISE THIS POSTING AND TITLE IT SIDE-SWING GOLF.
2024-06-01: Clock Spring hit for a repeating golf swing? Yes. Works, but think of it as spinning the top.
2024-06-03: Crestbrook with Ernie. Found out that the Teaneck plane is necessary for my new spin the Top shots. Try a Side-Swing delayed hit with it next time. Use the RIGHT hip!
2024-06-04: Crestbrook with Winston and Rudy. The Side-Swing and Right Hip idea work. It has to be modified this way:
IT IS REQUIRED TO KEEP THE GRIP WAY FORWARD so that the upswing is almost backward. BELIEVE ME, MAKE A ROUNDHOUSE BACKSWING and THRUST THE CLUB BUTT TO THE BALL. This creates a delayed snapping hit THAT MAKES YOUR SHOULDERS TURN MORE on the finish.
The upswing must be a full one-piece takeaway along the plane until coiled. DO NOT UNCOIL.
Keeping the body coiled, start the downswing when the RIGHT HIP feels its connection to the club's centrifugal force.
SHIFT the weight to the left and THRUST THE BUTT OF THE CLUB TO THE BALL to make the RIGHT HIP automatically SNAP CLOSE, thereby, pulling, guiding along the plane, and hurling the CLUB HEAD to a side-swing hit of the ball.
Watch the clubhead pass the ball.
Continue to a picture-perfect pose.
2024-06-11: Crestbrook with Winston and Rudy. Found out that sticking the butt of the club works but there is still something missing. The fault is really concentrating too much on the pull of the butt of the club but the reality is the club cannot move if you don’t consciously move the whole upper body with it. SO YOU HAVE TO HURL THE WHOLE UPPER BODY, then the thrust of the butt happens!
2024-06-13: Grassy Hill Golf Course Rolly, Paul, Winston, Tony. Still suffering from that mental block on clearing the hips. ANSWER: Mike Austin Golf swing.Throw than pull. Downswing starts when shoulder hits chin.Call this NO THINK GOLF. KISS.
2024-06-17: Crestbrook with Ernie, Dante, Sonny. KISS works. It could be better if I can slice the plane like butter. Need to have confidence in the slashing swing.
2024-06-18:: Tradition at Oak Lane Paul Tony. My fault was not twisting the left shoulder enough leading to incomplete swings. This proves to me that my forward motion is purely a rebound. Without it, my swing sputters. Oh, I forgot to set up with the extreme RRE, too. Apparently, extreme RRE is essential so we have to add that to KISS. The triumvirate of KISS are now the extreme RRE, one-piece takeaway, and left shoulder stacking.
2024-06-19: East Mountain, Winston, Sonny, Tony. The triumvirate is correct but there is still something missing. Maybe, the Thrust and O-Way? OH, I AM FORGETTING THE POWER OF THE PARALLEL PLAY (PPP)! On chips and pitches, just the left hand pulling the club is enough to execute PPP but on full shots, the body shift must be augmented with the body snap or release.
2024-06-19: Start implementing the PPP with the KISS. Full shots PPP must bring down the arms first on the forward motion before turning the body to a picture perfect finish.
In order to copy the GOATs posture on the hitting zone, WHAT I NEED IS A RIGHT HAND COCK THAT WILL FORCE MY RIGHT HAND TO FIRE - BUT DELAYED TO BE INTENTIONALY LATE! THE RIGHT HAND HIT FORCES THE BODY TO TURN, PLUS IT FIRES THE MIKE AUSTIN THROW HAND.
2024-06-22: THRUST AND O-WAY WITH RIGHT HAND COCK. Left hand thrusts the club along the plane and the shoulders go O all the way. At address, the right hand is purposely kept low so it will be forced to participate. Or use the PPP, but use the left arm, instead of the club shaft for full shots. RELAX the body and wrists muscles and employ the Richter Downswing for maximum Clubhead speed. Richter Downswing was HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT all along.
2024-06-24: Tradition at Oak Lane Paul, Sonny, Winston, Tony. The bounce is a necessity to a no think swing (which is not by choice now). I can only do the Richter body turn when the forward motion is a bounce. The Hogan pinching grip also seems a good fit for the bounce forward swing.
2024-06-28: Grassy Hill Paul, Sonny, Tony, Winston. Pincer fingers worked. Also the bounce worked when it is almost a double bounce. You cannot cheat on the bounce. BY the way, the pincer fingers actually added another coiling piece of the swing - the wrists - which added distance.
2024-07-11: Crestbrook with Sonny and Rudy. In order to make my plane higher and upright, it is best to make sure my shoulders turn upright along the plane. Incidentally, lately I noticed that I no longer get bothered by the chicken wing.
2024-07-13: Norwich Golf Club. The above works. Especially If you use mainly the left hand to grip the club. My Golf swing right now is like a FROZEN TORSO chip like Jason Day. But the left wrist must feel the cocking centrifugal weight of the club before starting the forward swing. My golf quest must have peaked this day! The common denominator of everything is the LEFT SHOULDER! Read RRE, it is important in order to execute this swing correctly. THE FIRST MOVE IS THE RIGHT HAND FLIPPING BACK THE SHAFT - WHICH REVEALS THE PLANE, I.E., PATH FOR THE SHOULDERS TO USE TO TURN ON THE BACKSWING.
2024-07-19: The above works. I just have to trust it and accept that I tend to go right most times. And, probably, I need to fully cock my left arm and wrist like AJ. I need to go full turn every time in order to fully cock - which cures a lot of my swing problems.
1. Soft grip pressure 2. Limp arms (extended lead arm) 3. FLOP at the top 4. Don't pull down 5. Turn the body. Me; the flop must a *juggler* flick move. Yup. There are two distinct moves (of the body). First is to pull the grip towards the ball. (The pull is actually just the bounce. It is not done consciously. Goes to say, the backswing must have enough force to be able to create the bounce.) A little pause. Then, turn around to take the divot. Picture perfect finish. Revelation: My extreme reverse cock provides the delay that synchronizes the parts of my swing to impart the correctly placed divot. So just imagine a full reverse cock, do it, and everything else happens automatically and EVERY PART SYNCHRONIZED. The body TURN (as in picture-perfect) move is the force that hurls the club NOT A PULL.
2024-08-23: Veterans Memorial Golf Course with Doy. Sway in, sway out the arm for a picture-perfect finish. Try this ASAP because I might forget. This Is like AJ and picture-perfect combined . FORGET EVERYTHING. BACK TO MY PEAK ON 7/13/2024. THE RIGHT HAND COCKS THE CLUB FIRST, THEN THE BOUNCE, WHICH RESULTS IN AN AUTO RIGHT HAND ENGAGEMENT. STILL HAS THE TENDENCY FOR THE BALL TO GO RIGHT OF TARGET BUT WITH A FULL BOUNCE, IT SEEMS TO GO STRAIGHT. THIS IS MY SWING NOW. 2024-09-06: The downswing is first initiated by the bounce, then the left hand LAST THREE FINGERS just holds on to the grip of the club while the body twist directs the clubhead towards the ball with as much force as possible - finishing in a picture-perfect pose. 2024-09-08: Golf with Doy and Sam at Veterans Memorial Golf Course. picture-perfect pose must be done fast, executed like an AJ shoulder turn. On Doy's video, I was doing it like a slow motion move, and the shoulders turn was not complete. Why not make the bounce with the waist towing the upper body and throwing the coiled shoulders to a picture-perfect finish? Or could just lead and pull with the waist? Mye long time picture-perfect move is still better. Stick with it. But learn to stop the swing to snap the swing.
2024-09-12: Finally solved my divot problem while videoing myself at the deck in Chicago. My takeaway plane is not going to the intended plane. To fool it, imagine the plane to be going out of the target line. Everything will become like a Nicklaus swing. Better is to keep the plane the same way, but don't aline it with the shoulders and just let the plane cross the shoulders. Something like a 8/2 o'clock shoulder position vs. the usual 9/3 o'clock one. The effect is a perfect pull downswing with the snap becoming a necessity to complete the swing. I think it delays the timing too that it will straighten the ball direction, in contrast to the usual push shot. This actually is the DUKOT, but almost automatic and passive. And, because of the snap, I think I will gain more distance. THIS IS A NOVEL IDEA FOR ME. This is really the move to create a divot.
2024-09-18: What started out as a dukot swing that creates the divot is now turning out to be the FROZEN-BODY SWING! The full swing is fully frozen (more than a one-piece takeaway) and the body executes the 11/4 power turn - creating a correct divot automatically. I noticed the dukot backswing works best. It sets up a nice 11-4 power turn.
2024-09-20: Tradition at Oak Lane w Paul, Winston, Manny Gutierrez. Definitely works but it highlights a problem - shanking. Extreme cocking is a must. POST-REALIZATION: I WAS SHANKING BECAUSE I WAS COCKING MY BODY AND NOT KEEPING IT FROZEN IN THE UPSWING. I WAS TECHNICALLY OPENING THE CLUBFACE IN THE PROCESS, THUS, THE SHANK. THINK HOVLAND, BE A VIKTOR NEXT TIME. 1) Completely frozen upper body DUKOT. 2) 11-4 power DIVOT.
2024-09-23: Winston 79, Ernie 92, Tony 85. Scottie Sheffler putting style helped. DUKOT and DIVOT, definitely work. DON'T LOOK FOR IMPROVEMENT ANY MORE. STAY WITH THIS PERMANENTLY. When documenting, don't forget the extreme frozen body with the spine as the axis (added 2024-10-01: and why compression happens, snap-turn right hip; hold the grip firmly with the left three fingers). Include also Scottie Sheffner shoulder putting style fused with my right pool forearm.
2024-09-25: Tradition at Oak Lane. Made the mistake again of not following the extreme frozen body rule. Allowed the hands to move and cock itself - a no no. The upper body must be like a robot. Just perform the dukot backswing with the neck as the axis. BTW, Bob (& John) asked how old I am and complimented my swing. I do feel it too.
2024-09-26: At home while practicing, I found out that a correct backswing will produce a Hogan backhand slapping on the forward swing. At address, extreme frozen body and arms, extreme RRE with right elbow seated tightly on the stomach and arms tied up feeling, grip extremely set forward, left hand in control of club. Using one-piece takeaway, thrust the club backwards making sure the left backhand travels along the plane. (This should produce the Hogan backhand slap). On the BOUNCE (downswing), throw the TIP of the cocked grip towards the ball, THEN SNAP-TURN THE HIPS TO let the loose wrists release and automatically SNAP the clubhead towards the ball. The hands can actively release like Tony Boy's or thrown by the lower body, no preference as long as the SNAP is accomplished - full extension is achieved which results to divot and ball compression (derived from Paul video). By the way, the extreme frozen body, ensures the extension of the limbs enough to be able to flush the ball and create the divot and compression.
2024-09-30: Regarding the extreme frozen body, could it be that the MASS of the whole upper body is pulled and then hurled to snap and compress the ball? That will really be awesome! YES, this is the DUKUT backswing where the back is fully facing ithe target which encourages the LAG or extended weight shift prior to the hip snap-turn.
2024-10-02: The UNDERSTANDING of the DUKOT BACKSWING is ESSENTIAL for it creates the hip tension that automatically shifts the weight to the front - which ensures the DIVOT. In it's essence, you can say the entire swing is the DUKOT.
The key to the dukot backswing is the RRE with the right grip, slightly cocked and facing skyward at setup.
From that setup, the dukot backswing is started by continuing the cocking of the right grip along the PLANE - thrusting the clubhead backwards and upwards - until everything is fully coiled.
The motion is like pushing the right thumb out of your pants’ pocket, hence, the descriptive word DUKOT. Important to note that the plane's direction stays the same, parallel to the target line.
The hips are pulled and, in no way, consciously an active part of the upswing.
This backswing is a simple move with no hand manipulation other than the cocking move. If it is not that simple, then it is not being done correctly.
The right hand cock forces the scraping delayed hit (should be used in chipping and pitching too. Forces the body to open) and will not fire until the grip has moved forward and opened up with weight already shifted forward.
On the downswing, the right hand grip can fire.
The automatic weight shift also ensures the proper divot and compression.
Or JUST TURN.
YES, the downswing is just a TURN and the LEFT HAND just hangs on to the club up to the photo finish.
Try to let the club go around the body on the follow through. 2024-10-09: Snap-turn works better. Next time, use the neck as the axis. YOU HIT THE BALL WHILE THE UPPER BODY IS FACING THE TARGET OR SIDEWAYS HIT. Maybe, this can be done better if we let the right shoulder pull, just like the grip pulling on chips (note, timing is needed).
YES, THE RIGHT SHOULDER HIT IS THE KEY TO THE POWER TURN.
2024-10-13: The right shoulder hits works but it is hard to Implement. Tradition at Oak Lane with Winston. 2024-10-14: East Mountain GC with Sonny and Winston. Getting there. Thrusting the club backwards by turning the shoulders makes it easier for the shoulders (right) to go around forward. AND REMEMBER, DEPENDING ON THE DESIRED OUTCOME, YOU CAN FIRE THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO A SPOT (FULL SHOTS) OR YOU CAN SWEEP THE SPOT (CHIPS).
2024-10-22: It is getting apparent that the
RRE is important at setup because it sets up the dukot backswing.
The Dukot sets up the right hand reverse grip.
Which ensures the delayed side hit and facilitates the thrusting of the clubhead upwards.
Which facilitates the shoulders to go around the head and along the plane.
Which facilitates the resulting forward shoulder turn to delay hit the ball.
On the downswing, maintain the angle of the spine as long as possible. Do not stand erect!
2024-10-25: TRUST ME. At RRE address, stiffen the right arm straight and let the left hand waggle and initiate the upswing. COCK FIRST, THEN BRING THE CLUB UP. The right wrist will be forced to cock and on the downswing will AUTOMATICALLY FIRE, forcing a great hit and a picture-perfect finish. DELAYED HIT IS ALSO INTERTWINED WITH THE RIGHT HAND FIRE. The right hand only fires when it is already past the ball position.
OVER-COCKING IS THE KEY FOR EVERYBODY, FOR EVERY KIND OF SWING. HOW TO EXECUTE? TRY KEEPING THE RIGHT ELBOW ATTACHED TO THE BELLY AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. On the Dukot upswing, EARLY cock and while keeping BOTH PALMS along the plain, start the downswing with a forward body slide, followed with the big hit.
2024-10-30: IT IS NOT THE SHOULDERS THAT TURN, IT IS THE TRUNK AND HIPS.
NOW START CASTING THE BALL LIKE A FISHING POLE.
MY PUTTING BILLIARD RIGHT FOREARM SETUP CAN BE USED FOR ALL SHOTS, PUTTS, CHIPS, PITCHING, AND FULL SHOTS.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, THE BALL IS HIT WHEN THE BODY IS ALREADY FACING THE TARGET.
PUTANG INA!
RRE DUKOT
EARLY OVER COCK, 2024-12-08: SHORT GRIP, THEN COCK FIRST THE CLUB JUST BEFORE STARTING THE UPSWING IN ORDER FOR THE CLUBHEAD TO SNAP BACK AT THE BALL ON THE DOWNSWING. Note: no more shoulder turn or one-piece takeaway. JUST LET THE COCKING TWIST THE BODY TO TOP AND UNTIL THE BACK FACES THE BALL, ALA MCILROY. AND THE BODY MUST REALLY FEEL THE TIGHTENING AND STRETCHED FEELING.
TRUNK TURN UP
SIDE TURN DOWN
OPTIONALLY USE COCKED RIGHT HAND
Revise to incorporate the need to use the left hip, RRE fused right hip. 2024-11-09: I LEARNED FROM MY GAME TODAY THAT WHILE ON PUTTS AND CHIPS, THE RIGHT ARM PULLS THE CLUB, ON FULL SHOTS AND PITCHES, THE LEFT HIP IS THE DRIVER OF THE ONE-PIECE TAKEAWAY. CONVERSELY, THE RIGHT HIP SMASHES SIDEWAYS THE THE RIGHT HAND HIT. (A reminder in order for me to always remember what happened at East Mountain Golf Course today.)
Or pull on the backswing with the RIGHT HIP and pull on the forward swing with the LEFT hip. Try to make the back face the ball on the backswing. Rotate the left shoulder around the neck on the downswing.
2025-02-04: taken from the web which explains the above in a better way. The Perfect Backswing.
BOUNCE THE CLUB BACKWARDS. Hinge wrists LAST.
Then turn to the top. 2025-02-16: Load up the right shoulder and slam the club backwards and feel the Pain.
ON THE BOUNCE, PULL freely all the way through and around with the RIGHT shoulder. 2025-01-16: In order to compress the ball, the ball should be level with the lower portion of the clubface and create as less divot as possible, letting the sole slide on the fairway. In other words, swing flat.
The good thing about this Bouncing technique is the longer the club, the easier it gets! DON'T FORGET, IMAGINE THE RIGHT SHOULDER AS THE SWINGER AND HITTER OF THE CLUB. 2025-03-10: with Paul at Grassy Hill CC. The shoulders hitting works but only if the plane is 7/2 direction. The good thing is the acute angle of the two planes intersect in such a way that the forward/pull motion forces me to open the hips at the correct timing. BUT THE REAL REASON THE SWING GOT BETTER IS BECAUSE THE WEIGHT OF THE CLUBHEAD IS HURLED BACKWARDS AND LATER PULLED TOWARDS THE BALL. THE CLUBHEAD BEING HEAVY AND THE SHAFT BEING SO LIGHT HELPED A LOT (XXI0 DESIGN). I LOVE MY NEW XXI0 SET. This is the real Richter Swing found by re-imagining the clubhead throw and pull. I have to re-write this article now. 2025-03-12: Found out that if you bring up the club by opening the hips first, the club comes back to the same level at address, thereby, no chuks. Or KISS? Left hip up, right hip down? BUT THE REVERSED RIGHT ARM WITH ELBOW FROZEN ON THE STOMACH IS KEY. IT ENSURES THE CLUB IS PULLED BY THE BODY, AUTOMATICALLY CLEARS THE HIP WHICH PREVENTS THE CHICKEN WING. PLUS THE REVERSE THRUST OF THE CLUB ON THE UPSWING.
2025-03-16: Played Grassy Hill CC w Paul Dumlao and Winston Magno. Played the second best round of my life. Only two missed swings. One a shanked chip and another one, a skilled four wood. For the first time in my golfing life, I finally figured out my swing. Basically, the right arm is RRE frozen and it's main use is to be keep the grip, and by extension the clubhead, same distance to the body which ultimately results in perfect hits. AFTER THE GAME, I REALIZED THAT PULLING THE GRIP TOWARDS THE BALL WOULD HAVE SOLVED MY HESITANCY ON HOW TO OPEN MY HIPS AND TRANSFER THE WEIGHT TO THE LEFT - AUTOMATICALLY.
IITPS or KISS (Left hip up, right hip down)? I think the right elbow tucked in as far as possible on the stomach is crucial since it promotes an automatic pull of the club, it staying ahead of the clubface at all times. 2025-03-20: Definitely, extreme tucked in RRE is a must! Shot 87, two birdies, three pars with Winston at Grassy Hill CC. Even Winston said I now have a consistent swing. Well, what I added to the RRE is the clawing hit (vs. slapping), plus a resulting (clawing seem to promote the move) right hand hit. STICKING THE GRIP STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE GROUND (BALL) AND CLAWING MOTION TO THE TARGET EMPOWERED AUTOMATICALLY THE RIGHT HAND AT THE SAME TIME. I also notice a one piece takeaway culminating to a waiter's plate right hand cock, things happen, even on chips, helps. 2025-03-21: 102 on a windy day at Grassy Hill CC. Concentrating on including the right hand is not the way to go. I think KISS is the way to go and just let things happen.
2025-03-22: Reading back my notes, I now have a better understanding of why I was able to have a good, ball compressing swing and scoring an 87 lately. Here are very important revelations of my golf swing as it relates to each part of the game. Also, the Hogan plane is automatically used whenever it appears.
FULL SWING
Frozen RRE is key as it ensures that the clubhead is pulled backwards or the ball is “clawed” back.
As the left hand is frozen way ahead of the ball position, the clubhead is positioned like a rake and the upswing positions the body facing backwards. This backward facing perspective ensures that the ELBOW comes in towards the belly first at the downswing, thus forcing a correct turn (and perfect timing).
The upswing is forcefully swung upwards to get a “bounce”. The left hip can be dominant since it is necessary to open the hip - see previous note.
The mental concept of the “hit” is the right hand sticking the grip towards the ground (where the ball sits). I think sticking it with the left hip is better. And it goes to say that the left hip bring up the club, one piece takeaway. The bounce and left hip pushing the grip towards the ball should force the weight shift and the right hand to “claw” hard the ball, thus creating compression.
Hopefully, a picture-perfect finish will occur.
2025-03-24: After playing at Grassy Hill CC with Leo, Paul, and Winston, I found out that there are a things that has to happen in order to have a solid hit.
Frozen extreme RRE..
Rake clubface.
Left hip upswing
leading to backward facing position.
Grip points to the ball.
Left hip pull of grip to the ball.
2025-03-25: #3-6, replace with barrel roll upswing and downswing. 2025-03-27: Abling, Ed Olayon, Rolly Alzona, Paul, Tony. The Nicklaus backswing is better for no thinking golf. No pronation and left heel moves up.
2025-04-10: Frozen extreme RRE with cupped right hand wrist, ready to fire on impact. With a pull in mind, make a one-piece takeaway with the left hip, then let the right hip pull the clubhead along the ball. Keep the left hand pulling the club to a picture-perfect finish. (IT IS THE PULL, STUPID!)
2025-04-12: REWRITE THIS NOW TO INCORPORATE THE NO SWING GOLF - ALL PULL (PUTANG INA, GANITO PA LANG KADALI).
PITCHES
The waist is open and the stance is as narrow as position in order to prevent duffs.
Extreme frozen RRE. The elbow never leaves it's attachment to the belly at all times. The body does the swinging.
The club is cocked - the distance commensurate to the needed distance.
CHIPS
The same as pitching except the club is not cocked.
Distance also depends on the length of the backswing.
PUTTING
Aiming (optional) - go behind the ball and aim the right foot to the desired target, the line intersecting the ball. Place the putter in between and aim it using the foot and ball for aiming.
Frozen RRE and…
When the putter is properly aimed, move the body in such a way to end up with the left hand attached to the left belly.
Make a slight forward press, and hit the ball with the shoulders. Distance is by feel.
